THIRD DISTRICT COURT OF APPEAL
HISTORICAL SOCIETY
July 1, 2016

Dear Historical Society Members and Future Members:

The Third District Court of Appeal Historical Society was formed to commemorate and preserve the Court’s history. To that end, the Society’s mission is to preserve the Court’s historical records; create further records, in print and electronic media; document the Court’s fine history and achievements; and educate the public about the workings of the Court and the judicial system.

On May 19, 2017, we hosted and our members greatly enjoyed another successful Biennial Luncheon with the Judges at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables.  We have also concluded our second year of Administering the Rosemary Barkett Appellate American Inn of Court, and have continued our Outreach programs by helping coach students in the High School Moot Court Competition.

This summer we elected a new Board member, Karla Perkins, and re-elected Board Members Jeffrey Crockett, Rebecca Plasencia, and Jennifer Olmedo-Rodriguez. In addition, we are happy to announce that former Third District Chief Judge Frank Shepherd, who was instrumental in the formation of the Historical Society, has been appointed Board Member Ex Officio.  Finally, we thank Immediate Past President Paul Morris for his exemplary stewardship over the past year.

I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the Society as its tenth President for 2017-18.  I look forward to working with each of you this year.  This summer is an eventful and historic one for the Court as it celebrated the Passing of the Gavel from Chief Judge Richard Suarez to Chief Judge Elect Leslie B. Rothenberg on Friday, July 7, 2017, and will celebrate the Investiture of the Court’s newest Judge, Norma S. Lindsey, on Friday, August 25, 2017.

Sincerely,

Philip D. Parrish, Esq.
